American Bed Sizes In Inches |

Get The Right Size Mattress To Suit You and Your RoomSelecting the right size mattress is probably the second most important consideration after choosing the mattress construction itself. The reason for this is simple, the world we inhabit is three dimensional, and making sure you have the vertical support from your mattress is only one third of the battle! You also need to make sure your mattress offers you adequate room to move both side to side and up and down the length of the bed. The width of the mattress is going to be governed to a large degree by whether you sleep alone or not, and furthermore how much 'personal' space you prefer when sleeping. The very basic requirement here is the 54 inch wide double bed, anything beyond this width is down to luxury, and how much extra space you want to pay for. When it comes to length, there's no prizes for guessing this will be governed by your height. A good rule of thumb to observe is to pick a mattress that's roughly six to eight inches longer than you, this should give enough of a buffer so as not to have your feet kicking off the footboard or overhanging the edge. The other thing to consider when thinking about the size of your mattress is obviously the size of the bed it's going to sit on. Obviously the mattress will have to match the bed, so if your current bed no longer fits the bill, don't forget to factor that extra cost in. The final consideration relating to size is the room in which the bed will reside. It's well worth marking out a template of the dimensions of your desired mattress with a piece of string or lengths of timber, to see how this actually fits into the room, along with any other bedroom furniture. But don't forget that the mattress and bed when combined with bed linen etc will be far more imposing than the template suggests. So armed with these few observations and suggestions you can use the following list of sizes to determine what size mattress is right for you.
Various manufacturers offer additional sizes unique to their brand.
