Memory Foam Mattress Pad

The Memory Foam Mattress Pad, A Cheaper Option

Memory foam mattress pads or toppers are the cheaper alternative to the full memory foam mattress. The memory foam mattress pad is just that, a memory foam pad or liner that sits over your existing mattress.

When using a memory foam mattress pad, your existing mattress is playing the role of the core in the standard memory foam mattress. This is a great alternative for those on a budget, or those who have a good mattress they don't want to discard, but do want to make the switch to memory foam. Provided your existing standard mattress is in good shape with no large indentations or defects this should work just fine, giving you the memory foam effect at a snippet of the cost.

All the same principles apply as for the full memory foam mattress, the density and IFD rating should be examined carefully to ensure you're purchasing a good quality product. When it comes to thickness, you will need to be a little careful, too thin and you're likely to bottom out on the memory foam, and be receiving support from your standard mattress, and too thick and you'll over do it on the sinking feeling! A trial period is especially important when buying a topper or mattress pad. Because you're marrying together the two components, as opposed to the manufacturer doing it for you in the form of their core and memory foam layer in a full memory foam mattress, it can be harder for you to get the combination just right. So taking a couple of weeks to test your purchase with a no obligation trial is important.

The no obligation trial could be considered the acid test for a good product and retailer. Good quality memory foam products purchased by well informed customers are rarely ever returned, so if your retailer knows what their talking about and is selling a quality product they should have nothing to fear from offering a no obligation trial, think twice about a retailer that does!!

When looking for a quality mattress pad it's no surprise the same names pop up again and again! Right at the top is Tempur-Pedic, followed closely by Sleep Aid. So if you can afford it, I suggest sticking with these, otherwise, similar to the full mattresses, there are some good quality alternatives.
