Simmons Beautyrest Mattress ReviewsSimmons have quite an impressive track record in the mattress industry. With over a centuries worth of experience, Simmons are hard to beat when it comes to making mattresses that provide great support coupled with great comfort! Together with the Serta mattress company, Simmons is probably one of the most recognisable names in the mattress market. Simmons have developed a market leading edge with their motion transfer technology. The well known Simmons bowling ball commercial springs to mind! Basically Simmons mattresses are particularly good at limiting the motion of you tossing and turning in the bed from propagating over and disturbing your partner. Anyone whose partner is an 'energetic' sleeper will recognise the value in a feature like this. This reduction in motion transfer is made possible by the use of individual pocketed springs in the mattress core. Simmons have developed quite a wide range of mattresses to target every possible niche, however their success and expansion has been built on the well known Beautyrest mattress, one of the most widely used mattresses in America along with Serta's Perfect Sleeper. The reason for this mattresses success is its combination of good quality at an affordable price. The Beautyrest mattress has grown from a single mattress into a range, consisting of the Classic, World Class, Exceptional and NxG, all with varying features such as latex and memory foams. Simmons also produce the Beautyrest Black. Pitched as more luxurious then the standard Beautyrest, the Beautyrest Black provides additional foam layers with a wider choice of comfort layers such as silk and alpaca. This range is further subdivided into various models each with different comfort layer options and combinations. Simmons Natural Care Collection of mattresses is targeted at those requiring more support and back care than is typically required from a mattress. The Natural Care Collection is divided into the New Hope, the Branch River and the Pikes Peak mattress. All offer fantastic full body support, to levels that exceeds the rest of the Simmons range, with an emphasis on pressure relief. The Natural Care is the most basic of the three with the Pike Peaks mattress being at the top-end. Particular attention has been paid to the material selection for these mattresses, an example of this attention to detail is the use of non standard foams and latex to enhance breathability. The use of latex means these mattresses are strongly resistant to bacteria and mould and are all hypoallergenic. Simmons memory foam mattress range, called the Comforpedic uses enhanced memory foam called NxG. This foam reacts faster to body heat and also provides better heat dissipation, offering a more comfortable nights sleep. I personally think this provides the Simmons memory foam mattress range with a slight edge over its main competitor in the American market, Serta. The range consists of the Original Comforpedic, the Nassau and the Natural mattress. All have a memory foam comfort layer with latex core. As I mentioned above the Beautyrest is Simmons best selling mattress, but unlike Serta their best selling mattress is not their cheapest. Simmons now offer the Deep Sleep line in an effort to provide a quality mattress at a budget price. Unfortunately some of the better Simmons trade mark features are not provided, such as the pocket coil springs which reduce motion transfer. Complaints that typically arise from people who purchase this mattress are based on the fact that they didn't realise just how trimmed back the features are. Remember, for less than $1000, you can't expect the same features as the rest of the range. The benefit of these budget mattresses is mainly provided in the build quality, something they do have in common with the rest of the range. The Deep Sleep line is priced from under $1500 and does represent value for money, but if you can make the stretch to the Beautyrest range, I would strongly advise it! Finally Simmons offers a line of Kids and Crib mattresses. It's important the kids aren't neglected when it comes to mattress selection; they need the back support just as much as mam and dad! Simmons also produce the Monarch Futon Mattress. The Monarch Futon is a medium-firm, high quality futon mattress, it's a multi-layer foam construction finished in a polyester fibre wrap, giving it a plush but resilient top comfort layer. Obviously Simmons mattresses come in standard sizes, but its worth pointing out that Simmons also produce the Olympic or Expanded Queen size unique to their brand. The Olympic Queen measures 66" x 80" or 167cm x 203cm. Do remember though, there's no point in having a mattress in a non standard size that doesn't fit your bed!! To sum up, there's a lot to choose from in the Simmons range, but you will be guided to a large extent by your budget. As with any mattress purchase, the key to success lies in your research. Try and get a nights sleep in a mattress you're thinking of buying, maybe through a trial, or in a friend's house or hotel. But above all, buy from a reputable retailer who has experienced salespeople that can give you meaningful advice and the benefit of their experience, and not just a sales pitch! |
